Parts of Kota Marudu still submerged
Kota Kinabalu: Several low lying areas in Kota Marudu remained submerged with the number of flood victims sheltered at flood evacuation centres increasing to 2,880, Thursday. Sabah Civil Defence Force Director Col. Mulliadi Al-Hamdi Ladin said as at 11.40am on Thursday the water level at Sungai Bongon was at 7.50 metres (above warning level) and Sungai Bandau at 8.05 metres (above dangerous level).

A total of 910 families comprising 2,880 people remained sheltered at flood evacuation centres in SK Taritipan, Dewan St Theresa, Dewan Kg. Lotong, Dewan KRT Salimandut, Kota Marudu Community Hall, Damai Training Centre Hall, Dewan Kg Asin-Asin, Dewan Kg. Morion, Tandek Youth and Sports Hall, Dewan Kg. Masolog and Dewan Kg. Longob.

Villages affected at press time were Kg Longob, Kg Beliajung, Kg Bengkongan, Kg Talantang 1, Kg Masolog, Kg Magaratong, Kg Rakit, Kg Morion, Kg Piso, Kg Salimandut, Kg Tandek, Kg Asin-Asin, Kg Lotong, Kg Parong, Kg Goruntung, Kg Pansur, Kg Hatob and Kg Sumbilingon.

Based on monitoring conducted by the Civil Defence Force team, routes submerged by flood waters are Jalan Kg. Beliajung, Jalan Kg. Longob, Jalan Kg Damai, Jalan Kg Teritipan, Jalan Popok roundabout and the Langkon roundabout.

Mulliadi said the route accessible to all vehicles starts from Simpang 3 Langkon, Kota Marudu towards Kudat.

The weather was clear with rain coming to a stop as at 9.40am.

Among agencies involved in monitoring and assisting flood victims are the Kota Marudu District Office, Civil Defence Force, and police, Fire and Rescue Department and the Kota Marudu District Council.

Also at the scene was Civil Defence Force Director-General Dato Azmy Yahya who came to monitor the situation and to visit villagers sheltered at the Tandek Youth and Sports Hall, Dewan Kg. Masolog and Dewan Kg. Longob.

He was also briefed on the utilisation of the Civil Defence Force Drone Squad to monitor the situation in affected areas.

In Pitas, the water level for Sungai Kebatasan as at noon on Thursday stood at 6.07 metres (above dangerous level) and 4 metres (dangerous level) at Sungai Bengkoka.

Villages affected by floods are Kg Sibaung, Kg Pandan, Kg Pandan Mendamai, Kg Pinapak, Kg Perupuk and Kg Nibang.

A total of 26 families comprising 77 flood victims from Kg. Sibaung had to be evacuated to SK Pekan 2 Pitas.

The water level along the routes in the district was between 0.1 metres and 0.5 metres.
