MyKad syndicate man jailed

Kota Kinabalu: A local was sentenced to five years and six months' jail by the Magistrate's Court on five counts of having two others' MyKads, fake MyKads, fake birth certificates and fake government stamps used by a MyKad syndicate. Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus also handed a fine of RM2,000 or two months' jail to Rafie Sirini, 26, after he pleaded guilty to all the charges against him.Rafie of Kg Pampang, Sandakan was found having committed the offences on Jan 11 this year at 4.30pm at the National Registration Department (NRD) headquarters in the Federal Administration Complex, along Jalan Sulaman, here.ADVERTISEMENT On the first and second counts, Rafie was sentenced to a year's jail for having two persons' MyKad bearing the number 000311-12-1599 under the name of Azrin Matasin and 950309-12-6007 under the name of Muhammad Zamril Isnidil, respectively.The offence under Section 25(1)(o) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 provides for a jail term of up to three years, or fine of between RM3,000 and RM20,000, or both, conviction.On the third and fourth counts, he was sent to prison for a year on each charge of possessing 14 copies of fake MyKad and 55 pieces of fake birth certificates, respectively.On the fifth count, Rafie was sentenced to 18 months' jail and fined RM2,000 in default two months' jail for having two counterfeit government stamps, namely that of the National Registration Department (NRD) in Putrajaya and NRD in Sandakan.ADVERTISEMENT The offence under Section 259 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years and fine, on conviction.The court heard that an officer from the NRD's Investigation and Enforcement Division received information from the NRD's Documentation Unit about a suspicious man involved in a syndicate processing fake MyKads.

The team also found a black bag containing two MyKads which did not belong to Rafie, 14 copies of fake MyKads, 55 pieces of fake birth certificate and two counterfeit government stamps, all of which were kept in Rafie's car.Deputy Public Prosecutor Omar Faiz Abdul Kahar appeared for the prosecution while Rafie was not represented.
