Back govt, Chinese urged
Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman urged the people, especially the Chinese to throw their support behind the Government and to assist in further developing this State. "I believe that political stability, unity, harmony and tolerance that we are able to showcase here in Sabah will contribute towards political stability and unity at national level," he said, when launching the 2017 Chinese New Year Carnival organised by City Hall and Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) at the Padang Merdeka, Monday.

He assured that the State Government is committed to ensuring political stability, economic progress and social prosperity.

"We will strive to uphold and further strengthen these positive aspects so that the people will continue to experience and feel the benefit of living in a country and state that are always working towards improving livelihoods and in maintaining harmony and stability," he said. In line with this, he said, any actions that could negatively impact unity and stability must be avoided to allow us to achieve aspirations we have set to effectively develop Sabah.

"This will allow us to further improve the socio-economic level of the people and focus on bringing more progress, especially to those who live in rural areas."

Also present were FCAS President Datuk Seri TC Goh, Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai, Speaker Datuk Seri Syed Abas Syed Ali, cabinet ministers and community leaders.

Musa praised the wisdom behind organising this year's event at the more spacious Padang Merdeka as the venue means more visitors could come and enjoy the festivities in comfort.

It also means, he said, that more entrepreneurs are able to set up their stalls, giving them the opportunities to expand their business and increase their income in conjunction with the Chinese New Year.

"This is the intention of the State Government, to serve the people and give them the best.

Visitors who come here are not just the Chinese community and I believe this carnival will go a long way towards strengthening the bond of friendship among our people," he said.

He added that Malaysia can stand proud as a nation that is made up of people from diverse backgrounds.

Unity and harmony, he said are the country's pillars of progress and growth, and against this backdrop the people work together in finding common values that bind them together as Malaysians.

"It is my hope that we will continue to spread goodwill and express words of kindness to one another.

I extend Gong Xi Fa Cai greetings to all Chinese in Sabah, and I hope this New Year will bring with it more harmony, economic progress and prosperity," he said.
