Old Folks Home keeps getting new applicants

Kinarut: Although Tan Sri Lau Gek Poh has passed on, his legacy towards charitable causes is honoured by the management and staff of Hap Seng Consolidated Berhad.Its Kota Kinabalu office continues performing their duty to assist the underprivileged under their CSR activities.The late Tan Sri who founded Geh Poh (Holdings) Sdn Bhd and his wife, the late Puan Sri Khoo Geuh Noi, were very much active in helping the Sri Pritchard Old Folks Home in Kinarut and other such shelters during their active years.ADVERTISEMENT Today, Suzanna Wong the Senior Admin Manager and her staff Sandra Chong continue the founder's good deeds by re-visiting Sri Pritchard Home in Kinarut bringing cheer to the 94 residents of the Home. They distributed red packets (angpow) and hampers to the senior citizens there recently.The Home's superintendent, Lucina Loijim said that currently there are 34 females and 60 males occupying the Home with two qualified nurses manning the residents."There are some bedridden ones which we get our nurses to monitor closely. ADVERTISEMENT Others are mobile and still active so they carry on with their routine activities within the Home," said Lucina.She also revealed that there are some senior citizens from Kudat who intended to apply for intake but as of now, the Home could not accommodate them due to short of manpower.

"The ideal number would be one nurse to six residents," she told.Lucina also shared that during festive seasons like Chinese New Year, the Home received many groups from NGOs coming to donate foodstuff, household items, etc. During normal days, some companies or individuals would come during the weekends."I am grateful and thankful that Hap Seng continues to visit us yearly. It helps us a lot in sustaining our monthly expenses for our residents. There are other NGOs who frequently come to visit us as well. I am delighted that they remember us during the festivities. The oldest resident of the Home is aged 94."Usually the children of these residents come during the weekends to see their father or mother and bring goodies for them."
