Kota Kinabalu: Sabah-born Supt George Ab Rakman has been appointed new Deputy City Police Chief. George, who was Papar Police Chief for six years since 2010, pledged to work with City Police Chief ACP M. Chandra, in making the police force more respected.

"As a city deputy police chief, my thoughts, actions and behaviour have to change from when I was the police chief in Papar.

"This change is due, among other things, because firstly I have a head who I must obey, respect and fully support. Secondly, I have to realise my duties and responsibilities as a deputy and understand the atmosphere and environment in Kota Kinabalu in order to work systematically," he said.

He vowed to give his loyal devotion to the city police chief and hoped for cooperation from other department heads.

The handing over ceremony between George and DSP Rosdi Mat Jusoh who held the post as Acting Deputy City Police Chief for a month was witnessed by Chandra.

The ceremony also witnessed DSP Nor Azizulkifli Mansor handing over duties as City Criminal Investigations Department Head to ASP Arif Abdul Razak who takes over as Acting City Criminal Department Head.

Nor Azizulkifli from Besut in Kuala Terengganu, takes over as the new Papar Police Chief, after serving in the city police force for almost 17 years.

Meanwhile, Chandra said he and George have known each other since 1994.

"It is good to have an officer I am familiar with, we know each other very well," said Chandra who described George as someone who is very fatherly.

"He is well versed with Kota Kinabalu especially since he is from Kg Inanam Laut and I hope we can work together to ensure the flow is right for the benefit of the city police force and the people who depend on us to ensure safety," he said.

To Nor Azizulkifli, Chandra wished him all the best in his appointment as the new Papar police chief.

"He has been very loyal and dedicated during his tenure as city criminal investigation department head, he has always been there during crisis, I have gone through many operations and cases of interest with him.

"In the police force, we need loyalty at any cost, you cannot be disloyal because it will affect productivity and Azizulkifli has proven that loyalty is important.

"When you need him, he is always there, I have gone through with him almost all the Bersih rallies.

He is also a good adviser, he corrects the wrong and that is what we need, thus I personally want to thank him for backing me up," he said.
