Red shirt leader, members held for gang robbery

Kuala Lumpur: Controversial Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos and nine of his followers were Thursday arrested for gang robbery and trespass at an entertainment outlet.This comes after the owner of an entertainment centre in Sekinchan lodged a police report claiming that several items from the outlet had gone missing after Jamal and his men had raided the place.Selangor CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat confirmed that Jamal, who is Umno Sungai Besar chairman, was arrested today at his residence in Ampang. Plainclothes policemen had surrounded his house since 12.30pm, but only made the arrest at 3pm.ADVERTISEMENT He was taken in a police car to the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters here."We made the arrests following the police report that was lodged. Jamal did not raid illegal gambling dens, that premises was an entertainment outlet," said Fadzil."We received the report that a theft had occurred during one of those raids," he added. Fadzil said that the nine other men were arrested on Wednesday night pertaining to the case.ADVERTISEMENT He said police will remand the other nine suspects till Feb 6."They will be remanded till Feb 6 for the offence and we might apply for an extension if necessary," he said.

He also said that Jamal's remand will begin today, but could not say how long he will be in remand for. The case, said Fadzil, is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for robbery.Jamal and his gang went on a crusade of raiding illegal gambling dens and entertainment centres which he claimed were operating without licences since December last year.This came after the the Sabak Bernam district council (MBSB) had demolished his hotel and resort in Sekinchan.This is not the first time the Red Shirts leader has been arrested.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

In November, on the eve of the Bersih 5 rally, Jamal was hauled up by the police for his involvement in organising a counter-rally to the Bersih 5 rally.He was remanded for four days at the same Ampang district police headquarters.
