Kota Kinabalu: By Jason Santos The Transport Ministry will work with the State Government in the investigation involving the sunken catamaran that saw three Chinese perish in the incident.

It's minister, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai on Monday said actions will be taken on those responsible who have allowed the boat to be overladen.

"This is very, very serious. When we look at it we feel it's a very serious offence when we have to take the safety of our passengers and tourists as the most important thing to do.

"Especially in tourism industry, the safety of our guests comes first, we cannot neglect this," he said.

Liow said the agency under the Transport Ministry, Marine Department will work together in the ongoing investigation, adding he hoped the tourism in Sabah will continue to grow following this episode.

He said the Transport Ministry will provide more facilities to spur the industry's growth in Sabah, and improve the connectivity for the tourists in Sabah, including the country's airlines companies.

Meanwhile, Liow also said the government believed the economy will continue will grow in tandem with the world economic growth, which is expected to grow to 3.4 per cent in 2017, and this is and this is reflected by the improving prices of oil palm, rubber and also oil prices in the country.

He said the increase in revenue for the country would allow the government assist the poor and those in the B40 group (hardcore poor) and look into ways to reduce the cost of living of Malaysians.

"For example the price of rubber has gone up from RM2 to RM2.60 per kilo and oil palm hover around RM2,100 to RM3,100 and RM3,200 per ton.

"The MCA wish this year is to be able to enhance further the country's economic growth to more than 4.5 per cent and this would be able to increase the country revenue and average income per capita," he said.
