PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's top pro golfer, Nicholas Fung, would not want to add pressure on himself when playing in the Maybank Championship Malaysia which starts on Thursday."My target is to go as low as I can. I don't want to think about winning and putting pressure on myself even though I'm playing at home. I want to go as low as I can," said the 26-year-old Sabahan during a press conference here Tuesday."A top-10 result is achievable but I don't want to think it over. I just hope my putt drops this week," he added.ADVERTISEMENT Fung earned his ticket to the tournament after emerging as the leading Malaysian on the final Asian Tour Order of Merit ranking last season, finishing an impressive 12th, thanks to four top-10 finishes including a runner-up spot in Manila. With his straight-shooting game, Fung is keen to conclude the on-going Chinese New Year celebration with a maiden Asian Tour victory at the Maybank Championship this weekend."I'm very excited coming back to Saujana. It is one of my favourite golf courses. I've played here so many times. This golf course is more about being aggressive off the tees. I don't hit it far but if I keep my ball in play I think I can do well. The greens are soft and it is good for me to attack so it suits my game," said Fung about his game plan.ADVERTISEMENT Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

The second edition of the Asian Tour and European Tour co-sanctioned competition will be held at the Saujana Golf and Country Club in Subang from Feb 9-12. As part of Maybank's commitment to support the growth of the game across the Asean region, they are giving the top players from five Asean countries (who would not otherwise qualify through their ranking on the Asian Tour Order of Merit) a chance to compete in the US$3 million (about RM13.31 million) prize purse event. – Bernama
