One of eight typhoid patients in Tawau dies

Kota Kinabalu: One of the eight typhoid patients in Tawau has died but the patient's cause of death has yet to be ascertained.State Health Department Principal Assistant Director (Epidemiology) Dr Maria Suleiman said they have yet to determine if the patient had passed away due to the disease itself. "At the moment, the cause of death is due to severe sepsis. (If needed), we will revise this after a mortality audit meeting," she told News Straits Times when contacted Wednesday.ADVERTISEMENT On Tuesday, the department released a statement reporting on the sudden increase of typhoid cases in Tawau. Its Health Director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi had said Tawau showed an increase of typhoid cases, with eight reported so far and none reported last year, within the same period."All cases as per our current investigation are not related. The department had also checked on the health status of those in close contact with the patients and disinfected their houses. ADVERTISEMENT Health awareness programmes on the disease are also being conducted among the public.
