GEORGE TOWN: The DAP-led Penang government Wednesday launched the 'I Love Penang' campaign in an effort to prevent the state from being made a federal territory. Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the campaign represented a symbolic rejection of the proposal by Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor who had expressed the desire to make Penang a federal territory.

"The state executive council meeting today decided to launch the 'I Love Penang' campaign throughout the state.

The campaign is based on the love for one's state.

"We will not fight hatred with hatred. We will fight with love. It is for this reason that we want to safeguard Penang by loving Penang," he said at a press conference here.

In an interview with the BFM business radio station on Feb 1, Tengku Adnan had stated the desire to expand the region of the federal territories by including Penang, Langkawi, Pulau Tioman and a part of Melaka. – Bernama
