Gas leak on Viet cargo ship leaves one dead, 3 injured

Kota Kinabalu: A Vietnamese worker was killed while three of his colleagues were hospitalised after inhaling toxic fumes following a gas leak in the ship's rice storage room, Monday.The Vietnamese-registered vessel, Vimaru Pearl, with 21 crew members was transporting rice to the Philippines from Ho Chi Minh City and expected to arrive in the Philippines this (Tuesday) afternoon.However, while on their way, the ship suffered a gas leak and they sent a signal to the MERS 999 at 2.30pm.

About 40 firemen armed with the necessary equipment from the Lintas and Sembulan stations rushed to wait for the ship's arrival.When the ship arrived at the Tanjung Lipat Port here, the firemen discovered that Hoang Van Chuyen, 33, had died while the other three were very weak.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

The three injured Vietnamese, Dao Thanh Lam, 29, Pham Quoc Duy, 32, and Bui Dinh Huy, 27, were rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) 1 by a waiting ambulance where their conditions are reported to be stable.The firemen later decontaminated the ship and ended the operation at 7.10pm. - Jimmy Goh
