Kota Kinabalu: Sabah DAP advisor Jimmy Wong said former Federal Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal may realise his dream of becoming Sabah's next Chief Minister only if the Parti Warisan Sabah President joins the KL-based opposition coalition that is intent on unseating the Barisan Nasional. "Shafie and the party should join the national opposition soonest possible. The downfall of the BN candidates here will pave the way for him to be the most potential candidate for the State executive post under the new administration," the Kota Kinabalu Member of Parliament said.

Jimmy admitted it will be difficult to topple the BN if local opposition parties are not united and refuse to work with its counterparts at the national level.

He said Parti Warisan should focus on how to defeat Umno candidates while its political allies could concentrate on capturing seats in non-Malay majority constituencies.

"Shafie as a former Umno high ranking official knows very well the strengths and weaknesses of BN.

Therfore, he is the right person to ensure the defeat of Umno candidates in GE14."

He added that no unity among the local opposition parties would mean a repeat of the GE13 results.

On the need for a good relationship with the national-based opposition parties if a new government is formed after the elections, he said such cordial relationship berween the state and federal leaders is necessary for check and balance purposes.

"Sabah should work closely with the Federal Government for the State to further progress resulting in better living conditions.

Likewise, Federal leaders also need the support of Sabah leaders," he said. - Nikko Fabian
