Forestry Dept inks MoU with S'pore

Sandakan: The Sabah Forestry Department has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Singapore National Parks Board (NParks).The MoU was signed on Feb 9 by Sabah Chief Conservator of Forests Datuk Sam Mannan and NParks Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Er.

Sam said in a statement Monday that the scope of the MoU covered exchange of knowledge and skills in relevant fields of botanical interests, including capacity building in living collection curation and management, herbarium management, floristic and molecular studies and conservation works, and would be in effect for five years.

The MoU was signed at the Singapore Botanical Garden, after which the officials took a brief tour of the ongoing 'Walk of Giant' boardwalk development which will be officiated on March 31, he said.

Sam said the Sabah Forestry Department delegation was also brought to the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and Pulau Ubin Nature Reserve for a closer look at the various conservation efforts carried out by NParks.

NParks is a statutory board under the purview of the Singapore Ministry of the National Development.

NParks is responsible for providing and enhancing the greenery of Singapore.

The Singapore Botanical Gardens is a division of NParks which aims to connect plants with people through activities in research, education, conservation and provision of a public space for nature recreation.
