Kuala Lumpur: National badminton ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei has been installed as the top seed in the All England Badminton Championships to be held at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham, England from March 7-12.According to the men's singles draw issued by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Chong Wei is not expected to face a major obstacle in his quest to reach the final where he is expected to meet Denmark's rising star Jan O Jorgensen, the second seed in the championships.

Chong Wei has been drawn to face a qualifier in the first round and face either Wei Nan from Hong Kong or Wang Tzu Wei (Taiwan) in the second round.

Barring any upsets, the world number one is expected to meet another rising star from China, Tian Houwei, the seventh seed in the quarterfinals.

Last year's Rio de Janeiro Olympics gold medallist Chen Long from China who is seeded number five is highly favoured to meet Chong Wei in the semifinals.

The draw aside, Chong Wei who is recovering from Medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury to his knee has yet to confirm his participation in the All England.

"I am still not certain if I can compete in the All England or not. My injury is recovering but I have not started training on the court but I do not want to give it much thought yet," he said after undergoing rehab for the injury at the Academy Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara, here Tuesday.

Local media had quoted men's singles head coach Hendrawan as saying that he was confident Chong Wei would recover in time for the All England.

Chong Wei will be hoping to add his fourth All England title after having won in 2010, 2011 and 2014. – Bernama
