Man who tried to commit suicide held

Lahad Datu: A local who attempted to jump off a two-storey building in Jalan Kemuning was detained by police who rescued him, on Sunday. District Police Chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad said a team rushed to the scene after civilians alerted them at 4.15pm about the man. The team led by Insp. Mohd Zaidi Johari arrived at the scene to see the 34-year-old who when approached made a dash towards the side of the building before jumping off it. ADVERTISEMENT The man's attempt failed when Zaidi managed to grab his (the victim) neck while another policeman grabbed his hand. The police were then assisted by firefighters who took the victim down and took him to the police station for further investigation. Hamzah said initial findings showed that the man was convicted for drug possession previously."He decided to take his own life due to financial problems and failure to pay debts," he said, adding that the man also recently lost his job as a waiter.
