Two dead as 4WD plunges into ravine

Tawau: Two people were killed and one injured when the D-max vehicle they were travelling in plunged into a ravine at Km 7 along Jalan Merotai-Dumpas, here, Sunday.Three others in the vehicle, including a three-year-old boy, escaped unscathed in the 9.20pm mishap. District Police Chief ACP Fadil Marsus identified the deceased as Yusop Yaris, 44, a Sarawakian soldier attached with the Kukusan Camp Joint Force here and Morni Sirat, 57, who succumbed to injuries after being thrown out of the vehicle.

Fadil said Yusop who drove the 4WD sustained severe injuries to the head, killing him on the spot, while Morni died at the Tawau Hospital. The injured was identified as Rukidi N.D.Rosli, 64, who sat on the front passenger seat, while the three who escaped injuries are Khairunisa Rukidi, 20, Musniyah Rukidi, 32, and Mohamad Aqil Zaqan Adul, three.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Fadil said initial findings showed the vehicle was heading to Tawau town from Lawas, Sarawak when the driver lost control of the car which skidded and plunged into the ravine. The impact caused the driver and Morni who sat on the rear passenger seat to get thrown out of the car. - Lagatah Toyos
