BAM initiate special project to assist Chong Wei

Kuala Lumpur: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Tuesday initiated a special project to help National badminton ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei capture the men's singles title in the World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, come August.BAM Coaching and Training (C&T) chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria said the special project was to specifically help Chong Wei face a number of important tournaments and especially to win the World Championship."After gathering views from all C&T members, we decided to review the current coaching structure.ADVERTISEMENT "Hendrawan and Tey Seu Bock plus five players will be in the special project with Chong Wei," he told reporters after chairing a C&T meeting, here Tuesday.The five players in the project are Chong Yee Han, Lim Chi Wing, Soong Joo Ven, Soo Teck Zhi and Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin. Mohamad Norza said the BAM has appointed men's singles coach Hendrawan as the Head coach of the special project and he would report directly to the C&T chairman and he would also become a member of the C&T committee.According to Mohamad Norza, the objective of the special project is to fulfil Chong Wei's aspiration of grooming players who will replace him one day.Meanwhile, BAM Technical director Morten Frost Hansen in welcoming the special project said it was also his original plan.ADVERTISEMENT "I think it's a very good decision and it's actually my own proposal and they (BAM) made a few adjustments to it.
