Kota Kinabalu: A local man who bought a stolen luxury watch was sentenced to 11 months' jail on Tuesday.Lau Wui Mun pleaded guilty before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to having the Tissot wrist watch belonging to one Mathew Wong at 2pm on Dec 9, 2016 in a room of a clubhouse in Penampang.Inspector James Paran, prosecuting, told the court that Lau was arrested by police after he confessed to having the stolen item.

Lau, who was not represented, said he had bought the watch.He was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both on conviction.
Meanwhile, a 38-year-old trader claimed trial to keeping a stolen car.Jamil Mohd Andang is accused of having a Perodua Axia at 11.10am on Feb 1 at Kg Pulau Penampang, Jalan Sulaman.

The prosecution did not offer bail on the grounds that Jamil has three other related cases against him but counsel Azhier Farhan representing Jamil requested for bail.Azhier informed the court that Jamil kept the car belonging to a friend who borrowed RM1,000 from him.

The court fixed March 8 for mention and denied him bail.In another case, four men were penalised for taking drugs.

Berman Cruz, Jovani Sidin, Md Azrul Dorah and Balla Abdul admitted to committing the offence at separate locations here between Nov 30, 2016 and Jan 14 this year.Berman was fined RM2,000 or seven months' jail, Jovani was jailed seven months while Azrul and Balla were handed six months' jail each. – Jo Ann Mool
