Raping stepdaughter: Man to enter defence

Kota Kinabalu: A 26-year-old man was ordered to enter defence on a charge of raping his stepdaughter. Sessions Court Judge Indra Ayub made the order after ruling that the prosecution had made out a prima facie case against the man on Wednesday.The man allegedly raped the 12-year-old girl at a quarters in Beaufort at 5pm on May 17, 2016.

The offence under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between eight years and 30 years and at least 10 strokes of the cane, on conviction.The prosecution had called seven witnesses during the hearing.Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Khairuddin Idris appeared for the prosecution while the man was defended by counsel Azman Karim.In another court, four men and a woman were jailed four and five months each for entering the State without valid documents. They were Joharis Mujahidin, Nasri Abdullah, Bilman Korong, Karim Ghani and woman Aini Akbain, aged between 24 and 45.

They pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz who also handed a stroke of the cane to each of the men.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

They were arrested at different places in the city, Penampang, Papar and Tuaran.
