Kundasang landscape upgrade urged

Ranau: Newly appointed Councillors for the Ranau District Council (AMDR) are urged to be proactive in helping the Ranau District Council (MDR) to improve service quality and enhance the corporate financial results.Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam said AMDR is the front liner and must move ahead of other government agencies in managing the problem of the town and surrounding area.

According to him, the role of AMDR not only focused on affair within the rating area but the whole vicinity that lies within the district are under the watch of MDR although not subjected to taxing.

"It is up to local authorities to extend the jurisdiction of their Area Rating while taking into account their capacity in terms of providing effective services consistent with their roles in the urban and town areas itself.

"However, we are confident that with different backgrounds in the panel of AMDR it will be able to contribute, especially in Ranau and Kundasang," he explained.

Joachim, who is also Kundasang Assemblyman, said this while witnessing the handing over of letters of appointment and swearing in of 18 new AMDR for the year 2017-2018 here, Thursday.

Meanwhile, he hoped that the MDR can upgrade the landscape in the Kundasang town area to make it more beautiful and cheerful in attracting more foreign tourists to stop by in Kundasang town.

Those appointed as the new AMDR are Datuk Jimmy Tham Nyuk Leong, M Yahya Dunggi, Johari Suhaimin, Jahidin Lumat, Lee Kim Sing, Abidin Sahat, Selhajini Rasmin, Georgina George, Datin Anisah Ibrahim, Datin Dr Lunkiam Dambul, Jaibie Dualis, Shin Siong Tak, Jonius Kalintek, Danis Buik, Yubidi Gompoyo, Ambrose Youndo, Tham Yin Enn and Jasni Rijan.

Also present were Ranau MP, Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Ginun Yangus, Ranau District Officer, Hj Faimin Kamin, MDR CEO and Huil Binua, among others. - Clarence G Dol
