Train to nowhere for Kinarut illegals
Kota Kinabalu: A total of 13 illegal immigrants were nabbed during a crime prevention operation conducted at the Kinarut train station, along Jalan Kinarut Township, in Papar, on Thursday. The paperless group, aged between 20 and 40s, was waiting for the train which was heading to the city when they were detained by police.

Papar Police Chief DSP Nor Azizulkifli Mansor said inspections on all 13 people found them to have no valid documents and staying in the district illegally.

He said the detention was prompted by information from residents who alerted them about a surge in illegal immigrants in the district.

"We take this matter seriously and will conduct more operations to eradicate the illegal immigrant presence which also contributes to crime such as snatch theft, break-ins and robbery in the district," he said.

He urged residents to channel information to the police for immediate action. - Sherell Ann Jeffrey
