Found – body of man lost in forest reserve

Tawau: A man who was reported missing at the foot of the Bukit Gemok Forest Reserve, in Kampung Pasir Putih was found dead on Wednesday.The body was discovered by search and rescue teams on the third day of the operation, about 50 metres from the operations centre. Tarappe Beddu, 36, was found with one foot stuck in the rocks with holes as deep as seven metres by Civil Defence Force personnel Lance Corperal Mazlan Raslee Emparang.

The body was carried out of the forest reserve by the search and rescue teams comprising police, Fire and Rescue Department, Forestry Department and villagers at about 5pm. The man is survived by three children aged between five and 11. His remains was taken to the Tawau Hospital for post mortem. District Police Chief ACP Fadil Marsus said the man failed to return to his house in Kampung Tanjung Batu Log Pond since Feb 22 after leaving for work at an ice processing factory in Taman Univilla. His family was later informed that he had gone to his father's house at Kampung Pasir Putih and that he had left the house soon after that.

"On Saturday (Feb 25), his wife went searching for him after her father-in-law handed over her husband's trousers and wallet which were found by a gardener. "His wife later found her husband's slippers in the same location but failed to find him," he said.

He said a search and rescue operation was mounted covering 200 square metres in the forest area on Monday but was postponed due to the rocky terrain and darkness which made operations difficult. Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
