Ys loans defaulters offered 20pc rebate

Kota Kinabalu: Yayasan Sabah Group will be offering a 20 per cent rebate to encourage its study loan defaulters to start making repayments. Its Director Datuk Sapawi Ahmad said this will be the first time a rebate was put on the table and will come along with an amnesty period. "Thus, lump sum payment is definitely encouraged," he said. ADVERTISEMENT He announced this in a statement, Wednesday, announcing the group's plan to hold its "Bersama Rakyat" roadshow programme at Sri Libaran Hall in Sandakan on March 5 (Sunday). The roadshow will be officiated by Chief Minister cum Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan Sabah, Datuk Seri Musa Aman.Adding to this, Sapawi said Yayasan Sabah Group will also run its Education Carnival concurrently, involving institutions of higher learning, sponsors and an entrepreneurial programme. "This will cover matters such as arrears exemption where Yayasan Sabah Group study loan borrowers will be exempted from paying the arrears and discuss their study loan status during the roadshow," he added. ADVERTISEMENT He said those who wish to know the status of their loans or whether they have been blacklisted are also encouraged to make their way to the day's event. "Again if the said borrowers have been earmarked for legal or C-TOS action, they will also be granted amnesty on that day if they agree to repay their loans based on conditions set by Yayasan Sabah Group," he explained.

Education counsellors will be on site to assist those with questions on their loans as well as the Yayasan Sabah Mobile Collection Van to facilitate the repayment of study loans.Touching on the roadshow, Sapawi said numerous activities such as exhibitions by institutions of higher learning (public and private), Score A Seminar in collaboration with Berita Harian will also be held at SMK Tinusa, Sandakan from 10am–5.30pm. "Notable organisations joining the Education Carnival are National Higher Education Fund Corporation, Mara Sabah, Pusat Zakat Sabah, State Civil Service Department (Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam Negeri), Unit Teraju Bumiputera and Petronas Sabah and Labuan regional office," said. Sapawi said these events will help students make the right decision in choosing their future career. "For years, in fact ever since Yayasan Sabah Group was established, its educational programmes supplemented and complemented the activities of the government in uplifting the quality of education and educational facilities for Malaysians in Sabah. This noble role continues till present," he said. In addition to this, Sapawi said this roadshow will also enlighten the public on Small and Medium Industry (SME) programmes particularly with the objective to disseminate entrepreneurial development to the people. "Concurrently, the roadshow is an avenue to enhance the involvement of bumiputera and rural communities in economic activities. "The programme also encourages SME development in the district by disseminating information such as funding availability, human capital development and other initiatives," he said. It will involve 30 exhibitors from various government departments and agencies besides 30 stall operators. "The roadshow will include exciting activities such as product demonstration, Pusat Kraftangan Sabah's technique of drawing designs on batik by youth apart from other various informative and interactive activities," he said.Also in Yayasan Sabah Group's exhibition booth will be University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF), Kolej Teknikal Yayasan Sabah (KTYS), a demonstration on local handicrafts as well as zone office socio-economic participants displaying and selling their products.Various other activities will also be taking place such as auto show, skateboard competition, sports, busking competition, modern dance competition, artiste performance from Sandakan FM and lucky draw.Sapawi said the roadshow is organised with the objectives to promote understanding and strengthening relationships with relevant agencies, private sector and local communities as well as to introduce Yayasan Sabah Group's social development programmes such as the Community Development Programme or Program Pembangunan Masyarakat (PPM), besides highlighting the commercial activities and conservation efforts."Among others, the objectives of PPM are to empower and rebrand the zones core programme, formerly known as the Intellectual and Mind Development Programme, Socio-economic and Socio-cultural Development Programme," he said. "It is also to create a focus group among the target of multi-level and multi-dimensional categories in each district through the concept of lifelong learning and to emphasise on value for money programme. The implementation of this PPM is then done via collaboration with various government agencies, the private sector and NGOs," he added.Overall, from 2005, the six zone offices implemented a total of 3,624 core programmes involving RM8.095 million which reached 458,786 beneficiaries.Explaining on the Yayasan Sabah with the People Programme or in short YSBR, Sapawi said through the YSBR programme, Yayasan Sabah Group has implemented 39,936 projects/programmes since 2005."These projects include construction and repair of hardcore poor houses, suspension bridges, walkways, jetties, gravity-feed pipes/wells as well as women entrepreneurship. Programmes under the YSBR are aimed to uplift the quality of life of the people. Overall, these projects have benefited 40,011 people throughout the State involving RM7.47 million," he added.
