RM67 million in sponsorship secured,says Saravanan

Putra Jaya: Sponsorship for the 29th Kuala Lumpur SEA Games and Asean Para Games (KL 2017) has hit 84 per cent or RM67 million of the targeted RM80 million.Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk M. Saravanan said the amount collected through the efforts of the Malaysian SEA Games Organising Committee (Masoc) comprised RM20 million cash and the rest in kinds.

"The balance RM47 million will be in the form of products and services. Our target is RM30 million cash and RM50 million in products and facilities," he told reporters at Menara KBS, here Monday after witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Malaysia Airports Holding Berhad and Masoc.

MAHB has come in as a Gold Category Sponsor for the SEA Games to be held from Aug 19-31 and Asean Para Games from Sept 17-23.

Meanwhile, Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) honorary secretary Datuk Low Beng Choo said the number of athletes and officials for the SEA Games would be more than the number of participants in the 2015 Singapore SEA Games.

Beng Choo said participation would be in the region of 6,000 to 7,000 when registration closes on July 1.

In Singapore, 4,370 athletes took part, with Thailand emerging as the overall champion followed by host Singapore while Malaysia finished in fourth pot behind Vietnam.

"We expect Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia to increase their number of athletes. Indonesia especially are certain to increase their participation because they will be hosting the 2018 Asian Games. – Bernama
