Involvement in IS: Case of duo for re-mention on April 11

Kota Kinabalu: The case of two local men charged with involvement in terrorism activities relating to the Islamic State (IS) group will be re-mentioned on April 11.Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus set the date for administrative assistant Saifullah Sulaiman, 27, and online trader Md Ayub Idris, 32, during mention of their case on Tuesday.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nartiah F. Mirchelle Sambatan had applied for a new mention date while counsel Timothy Daut, who stood in for counsel Ram Singh who represents the duo, told the court that they would file a habeas corpus application at the High Court regarding the cases.

Saifullah is accused of knowingly canvassing support for IS via the Telegram application under the name of one Ahadun Ahad @ Pomade Land on March 29 this year in front of the Sabah Government Employees Co-operative Society Bhd (Kopeks), Kompleks Sadong Jaya, Jalan Ikan Juara Satu here.

He is also accused of knowingly giving support to the militant group's use of explosives in terrorism activities carried out with intent to advance an ideological struggle and with intent to threaten the public in Malaysia via his Telegram.

The offence was allegedly committed between June 25 and June 29 this year at the same place.

Md Ayub is accused of knowingly canvassing support for IS via the Telegram application under the name of one Shagrath @ Ihsahn on March 30 this year at B16-2-12, Taman Telipok Ria, Jalan Tuaran, Telipok in Tuaran.

Meanwhile, the case of a 28-year-old bouncer charged with the murder of a teenage boy outside a pub in Asia City here, three months ago has been adjourned to April 11.

The court fixed the date for Mohd Azmin Lidin on Tuesday following an application for a new mention date by the prosecution, telling the court that the chemist's report was still not ready.

Azmin of Kg Cenderamata, Likas, is accused of murdering one Yaacob Nasran between 3.30am and 4.30am on Dec 15, 2016 outside the Siam Thai Bar, Jalan Asia City.

Azmin, who is represented by counsel Dato' Seri Rakhbir Singh, faces the death penalty if convicted under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

In another case, one Campo Alian was sentenced to five years' jail and ordered given one stroke of the cane for taking drugs for the seventh time.

He pleaded guilty to committing the offence in Kepayan at 11.45am on Feb 8 this year.

The court heard that Campo has had six conviction records for similar offences between 2011 and 2016.
