Break-in gang crippled with arrest of four

Kota Kinabalu: Police have crippled another group responsible for at least three house break-ins in the city. The modus operandi used by the four men group, aged between 20 and 38, called Geng Jamil is to drive around targeting premises left vacant over a certain period such as school holidays, festive seasons or when nobody is home. Two of the group members were previously jailed three months for drug offences and one had re-entered the State despite being deported to the Philippines in 2015.

The fourth, a local Bajau who masterminded the group, was also previously jailed two years and fined RM2,000 after being found with stolen goods in 2011. City Police Chief ACP M. Chandra said the arrests came following a report lodged by a 34-year-old man who returned from work to find his house in Taman Putra Perdana ransacked on March 9. Several items amounting to RM15,000 were also found missing from the premises which had traces of the main door being pried opened. "This information prompted our team to nab three of the group members in Putatan and one in Manggatal on March 10.

"The team also seized several items including jewellery, electrical gadgets, watches and a Proton Saga all worth about RM25,000. "Initial investigations show that they were responsible for at least three break-in cases, namely in Taman Friendly Garden on March 2, Taman BDC in March 4 and Taman Kingfisher on March 5 with losses amounting to RM40,000."
