For popular Indonesian band, Repvblik, they have no qualms about others recording a cover version of their songs as long as they do not monetise the covers.
"We are okay with people doing covers of our songs as long as they are not put into an album for commercial purpose.
"We are pleased when there are people who try to be creative with our songs…that is good.
"However, if these recorded cover versions are sold, then they need to get the permission from our recording company in Indonesia as it has been clearly stated that our songs can't be published unless by our record label," said Hexananta Sayuthi, Repvblik's guitarist, at a press conference, here.
Repvblik's songs were popular among local music fans to an extent that some of them were even translated into local languages.
Towards this end, Hexa said, they do not disregard any possibility of collaborating with Sabahan artistes.
"We heard a lot about singers and musicians from Sabah…they are good, talented and creative.
"We will talk more about this proposed collaboration with the related quarters in Sabah so that they can recommend the talents to us.
"And maybe we can make it happen for the next album."
Apart from Hexananta or Hexa, Repvblik is also made of vocalist Ruri Herdian Wantogia, bassist Lafi Hariyatulafian (Lavy), keyboardist Bachtiar Rahman Hamzah (Tyar), lead guitarist Heri Masrullah Achmad (Ei) and drummer Randy Sapta Anggriawan (Randy).
They are here to perform as the headline act for Kupikupifm's free concert to be held at Hongkod Koisaan, KDCA, Penampang, this evening (Saturday).
Admitting that they are excited to perform in Sabah for the first time, Hexa said they have made months of preparation for their show on Saturday night.
"We will be performing eight to 10 songs tomorrow (Saturday) as gifts or a token of appreciation for our fans for their support.
"Ruri, our vocalist is down with a slight fever but we are confident that we will give our best and that is why we have asked him to take a good rest today (Friday).
"I hope everyone will come and watch the concert tomorrow and enjoy our performance but we assure you that this will not be the first and the last time for us to come here.
"We are planning to perform again here and perhaps we will even do a concert tour around the State."
The Kupikupifm concert is held as part of the local radio station's first anniversary celebration.
Among the performers who will be featured in the concert are Mary Intiang, Francis Landong, Evaristus Gungkit, Den Bisa, Jestie Alexius, Velvet, Esther Applunius, Felix Agus, Adex, Sharin Amud, Loytive, Nubornmusic and Bamboowoods.
