New Isuzu D-Max variant unveiled

Kota Kinabalu: Universal Motor Sdn Bhd, the authorised dealer for Isuzu vehicles and trucks in Sabah, unveiled the new Isuzu D-Max Single Cab RT85 in all its six branches in the State on Saturday.Its Managing Director Chok Yun Kiong said the new variant that comes in 2.5L and 3.0L 177hp models was brought in to meet the demand from its Sabah customers to have a high horsepower single cab pick-up.

He said the company is optimistic of selling about 30 units of the variant in the State that has a huge market to be tapped, especially in agriculture, plantation and manufacturing industries.

"Due to our customers' request in Sabah, we brought in the 3.0L 177hp single cab variant, which is the most powerful single cab in the country with a maximum output and torque of 177PS/380Nm.

"This variant is also the only 3.0L single cab pick-up available in the country and together with the 2.5L variant, both are fully equipped with advanced driving safety aids and features of any make in the segment such as anti-lock brake system (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), traction control system (TCS), electronic stability control (ESC) and Hill Start Assist (HSA)," he said to Daily Express here.

Chok said another prominent improvement is its new heavy duty leaf spring, pointing out that this suspension is aimed at better enduring the load even when the vehicle is used under harsh road conditions.

He said all D-Max single cab comes with bold and rugged front fascia that suit its purpose as a heavy duty vehicle with its new front bonnet, front grille and front bumper designs embracing the toughness of the vehicle.

Meanwhile, Isuzu Malaysia Executive Director Hajime Machimura said by introducing the powerful variant, they will be able to better serve the needs of customers in Malaysia.

He said this type of vehicle is mainly used for heavy duty purposes, hence, they are confident this new variant will be welcomed by the professional users.

"Last year, we remained the No. 1 Commercial Vehicle (CV) operator in Malaysia despite the challenging market outlook. We designed tough and durable products and this is the Isuzu's DNA.

"The D-Max single cab has always been the preferred choice for heavy duty purposes and we are committed in ensuring that our cars are the first choice for customers when it comes to the most powerful and safest single cab in the market.

"We are now the only brand that has a 3.0L single cab and additionally, we foresee that there will be high demand, especially from the timber, agriculture and plantations industries in the country," Machimura said in his statement in conjunction with the soft launch of the new variant.

Although it has accomplished an accumulated sales of over 90,000 units of all models since its incorporation in 2004, he said they are expecting to bring the figure to more than 100,000 units by end of this year. - Hayati Dzulkifli
