Kota Kinabalu: Treadmills and various gym equipment were gutted in a fire at Lorong Buah Langsat, in Inanam Square here, on Monday. It was learnt that the fire stemmed from an empty hut before it spread to a warehouse where the equipment were stored at about 1.30pm. "It's not the fire that worries me because we have insurance to cover that…my biggest worry is the delay in delivering the items to our customers who have already placed their orders in advance," said business owner Tommy Tham. ADVERTISEMENT He said the new stock came in last week and was scheduled to be delivered to his customers within this week. "We have a reputation to keep…many are expecting to receive the goods this week, I also have my workers' salary to think about … the rental … I don't know," he said, adding that this was the first fire incident to take place since they started renting the premises six years ago. It was learnt that the treadmills were imported from as far as Taiwan, China and several other countries. The site is located within the industrial part of Kolombong surrounded by many workshops, warehouses and factories, prompting business operations in the area to stop for a while as workers from other premises rushed to alert those in the warehouse. ADVERTISEMENT "I started shouting 'fire', 'fire' when I saw smoke coming from the vacant hut behind the warehouse, the fire was not that big at that time, I think they could have put it out if only those inside were alert," said a man who worked at one the nearby workshops. Another man who worked at an electrical appliance repair shop said he rushed out to the warehouse to alert the workers there.

"They only realised there was a fire when others from nearby premises rushed in to alert them, but by then the fire had already spread," he said. Meanwhile firefighters from Lintas Fire and Rescue led by its Operations Chief Sandreygo Salleh arrived at the scene located some six kilometres away and brought the fire under control at about 2.41pm. They were assisted by a team from the Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue as well as senior officers from the State Fire and Rescue headquarters. Police and personnel from the Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd were also there to assist. This is the second known fire incident involving business premises within six days.
