Fig and grape carnival

Kota Kinabalu: The public is invited to attend the Sabah Fig and Grape Mini Carnival to be held from March 24-26 at the Lintasan Daesoka here.Organised by the City Hall Recreation and Welfare Club in collaboration with the Sabah Figs and Grapes Association, the carnival is one of the events for the City Hall 17th anniversary celebration.

The carnival is expected to be inaugurated by Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai at 9am on March 26.

According to organising chairman, Robert Lipon who is also chairman of the club, the main objectives of the carnival is to promote the cultivation of fig which is said to offer a range of benefits to human health such as the fight against cancer, weight control, blood pressure control, maintaining skin health, strengthen immunity to disease and various other benefits obtained through the fruit or leaves.

A variety of fig saplings, fig products and equipment to plant the fig will be sold at the carnival.

Numerous activities have been planned to enliven the carnival, among them a half-day workshop fig tree planting and care.

The workshop will be held on March 24, at 2pm in the City Hall Council Meeting Room.

The first 50 people, who sign up, could join the workshop for free.

Several buskers groups would also perform at the event on March 25 and 26.

There will also be a garage sale, selling used items, which is one of the methods of disposing of used goods.

A colouring contest for primary school pupils will be held on March 25.
