Sandakan: Two special athletes from Sandakan are now in Ramsau, Austria, participating in the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017 being held from March 14-25 at Graz, Schladming and Ramsau. Norsyhadatul Aulia and Noraini Binti Zakaria, who are students from SMK Muhibbah Sandakan, are currently participating in the snowshoeing event. They are chaperoned by Maria J. Chang from Special Olympics Sandakan.

They are among four athletes representing Special Olympics Malaysia, the other two being their male counterparts Danish Zaffry bin Rosli and Muhammad Umar Hafiy bin Mohd Firuz.

"We are very proud that two of our special athletes from Sandakan have been selected and accepted to take part in this prestigious Special Olympics World Winter Games. They are really making all of us very proud," said Taren Sunil Manoharan, the Chairman of Special Olympics Sandakan.

Prior to the Games, Norsyhadatul Aulia and Noraini Binti Zakaria had been undergoing training with the rest of the team in Vienna, Austria.

"The very fact that our Sandakan athletes have qualified to take part in the Special Olympics World Games will certainly encourage their fellow athletes to work and train harder towards achieving similar goals," said Taren.
