UK impressed with Malaysia-made defence equipment

Langkawi: The United Kingdom (UK) is impressed with the quality of defence equipment produced by Malaysian companies and has invited them to look at it as future expansion market.UK Trade and Investment, Defence and Security, Senior Press Officer, Adam Thomas, said the Malaysian defence industry players were invited to explore the opportunity to supply equipment to the UK's armed forces."We want to use the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2017 as the opportunity to invite Malaysian companies to look to the UK as future market," he told reporters at the exhibition here Tuesday.

He said interested companies could register their capabilities with the UK Ministry of Defence through its website, www.contracts.mod.uk."If we consider them suitable, they can qualify for the defence contracts which are worth up to billions of dollars," he said.Thomas said 42 per cent of UK armed forces equipment currently were bought from overseas companies.He said a challenge for Malaysian companies in supplying equipment to the UK was maintaining the equipment in a country which was far away from Malaysia but such barrier could be overcome by partnering with UK companies.

Thomas said by supplying to the UK armed forces, it would also raise the credibility of any companies and open up more opportunities in other parts of the world.
