Boxing tournament starts today in Tambunan

Kota Kinabalu: Nine teams from various boxing associations in the State are taking part in the Sabah Youth Boxing Championship today.Sabah Boxing Association Vice President Fabian Tony Peter (pic) said Tambunan and Sandakan top the list in the number of boxers.He said close to 50 local amateur boxers have officially confirmed their participation in the tournament hosted by the Tambunan Boxing Association.ADVERTISEMENT The Sabah Youth Boxing Championship is part of the activities of Visit Tambunan 2017. It would be officiated by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Joseph Pairin Kitingan and attended by Sabah's Father of Boxing, Datuk Orlando Harumal.The boxers will be fighting in various categories starting from 33kg to 80kg. Fabian said young boxers can achieve national and even international fame if given proper training, outing, discipline and have the right boxing attitude.He said the association is again giving an opportunity to youths who have flair in boxing to further develop their skills and sportmanship.ADVERTISEMENT The boxing event is also designed to educate the participants of the advantages and benefits of boxing and at the same time to discourage youths from engaging in unhealthy practices like drugs and other unlawful activities that could destroy their future.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Today's boxing matches would start at 1.30pm until 5pm and same for the remaining two days.
