Kota Kinabalu: The Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM) Sabah Branch will be organising a one-day presentation and site demonstration on green technology for the commercial kitchen exhaust and treatment system this April 12. Its Chairman Amirul said the reason for this was due to the State still being without specific standards in treating commercial kitchen exhaust systems under its Building by-Laws at present.

He pointed out that other countries are already adopting The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers standard.

"We can explore the possibilities and ACEM Sabah can share and advise City Hall on the technical detail to suit the local context,' he said during a courtesy call to Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai here.

The ACEM delegation met Yeo to invite him to officiate the seminar.

In another development, Amirul said it was important for engineers to take part in City Hall's Preliminary Engineering Plan and Awareness Talk planned on April 12.

According to him, the views of engineers are crucial in this preliminary engineering planning to allow the process of any projects to run smoothly and on time.

City Hall is currently consulting with other agencies like the Drainage and Irrigation Department, Public Works Department, Water Department and professional institutions namely Institute of Engineering Malaysia Sabah Chapter, Malaysian Architect Association (PAM) and others to this end.

ACEM Sabah, which is also part of the working committee with City Hall in the public hearing on the Tanjung Aru Eco Development on Monday, also voiced their support to City Hall in making sure the voice of the public is heard on the multi-billion ringgit project.

Also present at the courtesy call was City Hall Director of Engineering Poon Chee Kong and ACEM Sabah Committee members, namely, Tan Kok Jyh, Chia Khiun Fung, Datuk Chin Su Yin, Warrence Chan and Tan Koh Yon.
