Education: Sabah to work closely with KL
Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government will work closely with the Federal Government in ensuring that education at all levels is given priority in Sabah, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman. "To this end, the State Government gives millions in allocations to Chinese vernacular schools, mission schools and non-Muslim religious organisations yearly.

"Aside from public and private institutes of higher learning in the West Coast of Sabah, the State Government also encourages the establishment of tertiary institutions in the East Coast."

He said this at the 4th St Paulians Reunion Nite 2017 at Hakka Hall, here, Friday.

Musa said the Sandakan Education Hub was developed with the objective of making higher education accessible and affordable to those who not only live in town but also in the rural areas.

"It is my hope that alumni members are open to sharing their knowledge on their chosen fields with students and school leavers who are still undecided about their future. At one point in life, most of us too had people to guide us in choosing our path and today, we can do the same.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank all teachers past and present for the continued dedication and contribution you have been making for the educational needs of the State. I know your job is not one that is easy as you have to manage students and also the expectations of their parents and society at large."

Musa said he was also happy to see so many of his school colleagues gathered in the hall to attend the biennial St. Paul Reunion Dinner. "Not many school alumni have maintained their tradition by regularly holding such dinners.

In this regard, I would like to congratulate the Paulians for continuing to hold this event."

Musa said with the theme "Treasure the present", he believed the event will not only be able to unite the former students of St. Paul but also give them a chance to look back on memories during their school days.

He said he also believed that, in addition to re-establish the bonds of friendship, it is time for former students to contribute to the school according to their means.

Musa also called on the former students to celebrate their school day memories and, most importantly, their friendship as Paulians.

He also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Datuk Chin Chi Kee and the organising committee of the School Alumni St. Paul.

He also announced that the State Government would donate RM50,000 to the alumni. - Neil Chan
