Kota Kinabalu: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Harun Abdullah said academic attainment in the Science Foundation at the Science and Technology Preparatory Centre is vital to continuing the undergraduate programmes. He said lecturers must help their students in the areas of learning and also inspire them to learn science. "I need to remind the students to be grateful to be given the opportunity to learn and enjoy the new equipment here," he said when opening of the centre's main building, here.

He said those accepted should feel lucky as there were thousands of students who applied for a place to learn at the centre.

"Lecturers should execute their duties well, be honest and passionate, and treat them like younger brothers or sisters as they would be future engineers, doctors, scientists and lecturers," he said.
According to him, the centre is based on the eco-campus concept, adding that he hoped students would remain high-spirited to learn from a new facility on campus.
