Warisan YBs won't head GLCs: Shafie
Penampang: Parti Warisan President Datuk Shafie Apdal (pic) said all elected representatives will not be allowed to engage in business and this includes heading any GLC (government-linked company) should his party form the next State Government."We will restructure the system. They will concentrate on looking after the rakyat. There will also be no extension of service for government staff upon reaching 60 and their salaries will be enough for their families.

"There must be ample money to give to the people, not keep the money in the Water Department only," he said, in Kg Nambazan, here, Saturday. He also promised to restructure Yayasan Sabah and order an investigation into what happened to one million hectares belonging to it. He did not elaborate.

"Warisan will also form a state Department of Education which can match the demands of the market and the funds will be obtained from Yayasan Sabah."

Shafie, a former Umno Minister who formed Warisan after he was suspended by the party, also said Sabah should also be approving the Birth Certificates and Identity Cards of Sabahans and not Kuala Lumpur "who do not know who are the people of Sabah".

He said the people should not be against Peninsular Malaysians, but only the policies of Umno-BN and promised to demand 20 per cent from Petronas for Sabah instead of the current 5pc oil royalty.

He also urged NGOs and lawyers to petition for all postal votes to be carried out and counted simultaneously on polling day instead of being kept at the police station for three days.

He also said since ships pass by Kudat, a new port would be built there to overcome the Cabotage policy which has been blamed for Sabah's higher cost of living and in view of Labuan having become a dead port now.

As for the flooding from Kota Belud to Kota Marudu, he would set up a flood centre instead of using schools as these are meant for students.

On another matter, he confirmed that Warisan would not support the RUU355 or Hadis Bill which is seen as an attempt to implement Sharia law indirectly by PAS, adding that "even the Kalimah Allah is misused by the government".

On the choice of candidates in the coming elections, Shafie said they would be based on ability to win and that they would not hop to another party later.

On whether Warisan would cooperate with other opposition parties, he said it is normal in elections here to see multi-cornered fights.

"Sabahans know what they want and they will realise who has the strength to topple the BN government," he said.

Among those who submitted membership forms were singer-composer Datuk Justin Stimol.
