Tambunan: Parti Besatu Sabah (PBS) founder Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan (pic), who has been phasing himself out of active politics, said his Tambunan state seat will always belong to PBS based on the strong support of the local voting populace. "The majority in Tambunan strongly believe in the political struggles of the party.I hope the overwhelming support will continue now that the State election is around the corner.ADVERTISEMENT "It is always my hope that this will continue because PBS as a party is not only multi-racial and good but has contributed to society coming at the time that this party was needed to help the people in Sabah," the former party president told Daily Express when attending the closing and award presentation of the Sabah Youth Boxing Championship at the Tambunan Community Centre during the weekend. He said he was thankful to the people of Tambunan for their support to PBS all this while and hoped they would continue to do so upon his imminent retirement from politics.Early in January, Pairin who has been heading PBS since forming the party in 1985 handed over the reins to his deputy of 23 years, Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, who is acting president. On his assessment on the strength of the opposition in Sabah, Pairin said in the context of the Barisan Nasional, the government has done very well for the people in the State.ADVERTISEMENT "There is no perfect government but in the context of what this government has done, I think we must continue to give support to the administration who have been helping you (people) all this while in stabilising the economy and other vital matters," Pairin, who is also Deputy Chief Minister, said.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

"Election is coming therefore a lot of people are interested in trying their luck...but if new comers are only interested in the post of the Chief Minister, then its best for us to continue what is good for us being provided by the present BN administrstion," said the former CM.
