Losing pistol: Former YB's trial July 24

Kota Kinabalu: A 55-year-old former assemblyman charged with losing his pistol and ammunition will go on trial on July 24-25.Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun set the date for Sarapin Magana (pic) during mention of his case on Monday.Deputy Public Prosecutor Nartiah F. Mirchelle Sambatan earlier informed the court that the prosecution is ready for trial and will call eight witnesses.

Sarapin, a former Matunggong Assemblyman, had on March 7 pleaded not guilty to two counts of losing a Semi-Auto HK Compact 9mm pistol and nine bullets, which he was lawfully authorised to have.He allegedly committed the offence at 6.30am on April 8, 2016 by the roadside near Plaza 333, Penampang By-pass, Penampang.Each count under Section 35 of the Arms Act 1960 provides for a jail term of up to one year or fine of up to RM1,000, or both, on conviction.Sarapin was on a bail of RM2,000 with RM1,000 deposited on each count in two sureties.

He was represented by counsel Dominic Chew and Luke Ressa Balang.In another case, a 58-year-old man was sentenced to 12 months' jail for housebreaking and theft.

Jupilon @ Clarence Molijol admitted to breaking into a house at Kg Pinapah Kondis in Penampang at 8am on Jan 1 this year and stealing jewellery and some cash.The court heard that police on Jan 6 found that the fingerprints extracted from the scene matched with Jupilon's which was in the police's record.Jupilon was arrested by police on Jan 12.Meanwhile, four men were penalised for having syabu.Kinsol Kimin, Abdul Malik, Suhaimi Gulam and Nurhama Manap admitted to having the drugs weighing 0.31gm, 0.19gm, 0.06gm and 3.06gm each at separate locations here and in Penampang between Dec 6 last year and Jan 22.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
