PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) has yet to set up a division in Sabah and Sarawak despite being a "national party".PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin said this was because the party was focusing on strengthening its peninsular divisions first to prepare them for the 14th general election (GE14).

"For our first phase, we have decided not to form chapters in Sabah and Sarawak although we have comrades there," he said.

"This is so we can allocate more time and focus on our programmes in the peninsula and the areas we hope to contest."

When asked to provide a time frame for the formation of divisions in East Malaysia, Muhyiddin said it would be done "when the time is right".

"We will see the future developments. When the time is right, we will spread our wings there.

We are pragmatic and we do not want to be too eager."

The Pagoh MP had earlier announced the leaders of PPBM's nine state chapters.

Former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir will lead Kedah, assisted by Major Anuar Abdul Hamid.

PPBM leaders for Negeri Sembilan, Perlis and the Federal Territories have yet to be chosen.

According to Muhyiddin, PPBM will complete the formation of its 165 peninsular divisions by April 14.

These divisions will strengthen their election machinery and recruit more members.

Last week, PPBM was officially accepted by opposition pact Pakatan Harapan (PH) as its fourth component party.

It also proposed that the federal pact change its name and contest under one logo and a joint manifesto.

PH is now seeking to register the informal pact as an official coalition before GE14.
