Man faces death penalty for having 101gm syabu

Kota Kinabalu: A 30-year-old local man was charged at the Magistrate's Court here Tuesday with trafficking 101.10gm of syabu.Arbee Erwyn Slaiman is accused of committing the offence in City Mall here at 2.05pm on March 13.However, no plea was recorded from Arbee, who was brought before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun, after the charge was read out to him.

Arbee is facing the mandatory death sentence if convicted under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.He was also charged with taking drugs on the same day, the offence of which was framed under Section 15 (1)(a) of the same Act which carries a jail term of up to two years or a maximum fine of RM5,000, upon convictionInspector Rasydan Jasni, prosecuting, applied for another date while waiting for the chemist's report on both cases.The court set May 8 for mention of both cases and ordered Arbee, who was represented by counsel Dominic Chew to be further remanded.

Meanwhile, the case of two local men charged with obstructing a policeman from discharging his duty has been adjourned to April 11.The court fixed the date for Fadhil Hanafi Ekin, 20, and Mohamad Akmal Ali, 18, who stand accused of committing the offence at 8.30pm on Feb 22 at Kg Lokub, Jalan Sepanggar.

In another case, one Mohamad Halim Kamarudin was fined RM4,000 or 20 months' jail for having 4.06 grams of syabu on Dec 3, last year at Sadong Jaya here.In the same court, another three men were penalised for taking drugs.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
