Fined for mischief over mum not preparing dinner

Kota Kinabalu: Mad at his mother for not preparing dinner, a jobless 23-year-old went berserk and destroyed amenities in their home.Mohd Fazlie Mohd Tahir was slapped with a fine of RM3,000 or spend four months behind bars after he admitted to committing mischief by breaking the television, radio and handphone which caused a RM2,000 loss to his father.

He had committed the offence at 7pm on March 23 in a unit of the SK Likas teachers' flat, Jalan Tuaran, Inanam.

Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun was informed by the prosecution that Fazlie, who is the eldest child, hit the roof as he was upset with his mother for not preparing dinner.

He broke the television, radio and handphone with a stone pestle in his rage.

The father lodged a police report against Fazlie, who was then arrested on March 26.

The court also heard that Fazlie is bad tempered and prone to losing his cool.

Fazlie, who was not represented, requested for a leniency or to be released.

He was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between one year and seven years or fine, or both, on conviction.

In another case, a 30-year-old distributor of money-lender business cards was fined RM2,500 or four months' jail for assisting in an unlicensed moneylender's business.

Lim Lai Soon pleaded guilty to committing the offence at 2pm on March 24 at the fish market in Petagas, near here.

Inspector Rasydan Jasni, prosecuting, told the court that Lim was seen by police while distributing the money lender pamphlets to public and when detained he failed to produce a licence for such business.

Lim was charged under Section 29AA of the Moneylenders Act 1951, which carries a jail term of up to two years jail or fine of up to RM20,000, or both, on conviction.

Meanwhile, four men were penalised for having syabu.

Ajis Ali, Norris Peritos, Johan Wawa and Shahrul Nizam Shah admitted to having the drugs weighing 0.09gm, 0.05gm, 0.59gm and 0.03gm each between Dec 1 last year and Jan 21 this year at separate locations here, in Putatan and Manggatal.

Norris was fined RM1,500 or eight months' jail while the rest were handed eight months' jail each. - Jo Ann Mool
