Tawau: A cameraman for a television station here has lodged a police report after learning that someone had been using his name to raise money by claiming that his father had just passed away. Osman Saide (pic), 36, said he was prompted to lodge a police report for fear that this irresponsible act would affect his image and the reputation of the company he worked for.

"It has been 11 years since my father died but this imposter is going around telling people that he needs donations for his younger sibling's airfare to Tawau from Kuala Lumpur because his father had just died," he said.

He said he was informed that the imposter has contacted at least three political leaders in Silam and another two in Semporna, and had asked for donations because his father had passed away.

He is also worried that the imposter might call more leaders or individuals and hoped those who receive such message from him to immediately call him (Osman) for clarification.

"I also want to say here that if you are contacted by someone claiming to be me and asking for financial contributions for personal purposes…that it is not me," said Osman who wants the imposter to stop exploiting his name.

Osman also claimed that the imposter is believed to be using two contact numbers to reach people via WhatsApp application which portrayed his (Osman) face as a profile photo.

"I don't know his real purpose but the motive seems like he is out to gain monetary donations from leaders," he said.
