6 charged with organised crime

KAJANG: Six men were charged in the Sessions court here Thursday for allegedly taking part in organised crime involving 'Gang 360 Devan'.They were Muhammad Rushlan Abdullah, B. Letchumanan, K. Alagasuveeran, M. Paramaguru, R. Sathies and Elangonaidu, aged between 31 and 44.

They nodded when the charges against them were read out separately before Judge Noridah Adam.

No plea was recorded from the accused as they were detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) and the case will be transferred to the Shah Alam High Court.

The offences allegedly occurred at the MV Empayer Sdn Bhd, No: 1-B, Jalan Perniagaan Masria 1 in Pusat Perniagaan Masria, Batu 9 Cheras here between Jan 1 and Feb 7, 2017.

The six were charged under section 130V(1) of the Penal Code which is punishable under the same section providing a jail term of up to 20 years upon conviction.

The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutors Mohamad Mustaffa P.

Kunyalam and Muhammad Fadzlan Mohd Noor while the accused were unrepresented.

The court fixed April 18 for mention.

On March 6, 29 individuals including a politician who is a Datuk were charged in the same court for alleged involvement in organised crime.

Meanwhile, in KUANTAN, the Magistrate's Court here Thursday set May 11 for mention of the case involving a security guard who allegedly possessed pictures and books related to the Daesh terrorist group.

Magistrate Nordiana Abdul Aziz set the date after allowing an application by DPP Mohamad Shahrizzat Amadan informing the prosecution was still awaiting a report from experts.

Ekanovaldi Abbas, 37, was charged with possessing 32 pictures stored on his mobile phone gallery, and four books related to the terrorist group at his house in Taman Tas here, at 12.30pm on Jan 27.

The accused was charged under Section 130JB (1)(a) of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine, or be deprived of the right to any of the items, if found guilty. – Bernama
