Kuala Lumpur: Sponsorship for the 29th SEA Games and the Kuala Lumpur 2017 ninth Para Asean Games (KL 2017) has already achieved its target of 87 per cent of the total or RM69 million from the actual target of RM80 million.Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the Malaysian SEA Games Organising Committee (Masoc) managed to collect the amount of sponsorship from various private agencies such as Malaysia Airports, Air Asia, Telekom Malaysia, Naza and McDonalds for the biggest sports event in South East Asia.

"Seventeen private companies have agreed to provide sponsorship in the form of cash, service and items.

According to the agreement, the companies sponsor RM30 million (cash) and RM50 million (service and items)," he said during the Ministers' Query Time (MQT) in parliament Thursday.

He was responding to a question from Datuk Abd Aziz Sheikh Fadzir (BN-Kulim Bandar Baharu) on preparation for both sports events, with consideration on budget limitations set.

According to Khairy, to date, preparation for both events were not affected by budget limitations, adding that the requirements and specifications were also fulfilled.

Meanwhile, in line with the hosting of both championships, Khairy said Masoc would introduce special edition vehicle plates Thursday.

"The bidding of the special plates will be open to the public in April," he said.

"KL 2017 will create history by offering high-quality telecasts during the 2017 SEA Games, with live telecasts for 24 out of 38 types of events contested," he added. – Bernama
