P'pines opens trade office in KL

Kota Kinabalu: The Philippine Government has signified its intent to scale up economic partnership with Malaysia with the opening of an economic promotions office in Kuala Lumpur.Called the Philippine Trade and Investment Centre – Kuala Lumpur, the office will assist Malaysian companies and businessmen explore and pursue economic opportunities in the Philippines, as well as Philippine companies and businessmen wishing to do business in Malaysia. Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia, J. Eduardo Malaya, hailed the decision of the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry to open the business promotion office.

"There are enormous potentials in bilateral trade and investments that can and should be tapped, especially with the high economic growth experienced by the Philippines. Working closely with Matrade, Malaysia's business chambers and other stakeholders, the Philippine Trade and Investment Centre – Kuala Lumpur can contribute significantly to the deepening of our economic partnership with Malaysia," the Ambassador said.The Philippine economy had a 6.8pc GDP growth in 2016, the highest in the region.Headed by Commercial Attaché Katrina Banzon, PTIC-KL is located at 19-9-3A, Office Suite, UOA Centre, Jalan Pinang 50450, Kuala Lumpur, with email address [email protected]. Banzon arrived in Kuala Lumpur in December last year and worked at the Embassy while finalising arrangements for the new office. She will be assisted by Louie Brigida Quero-Lee.

A blessing of the new office was carried out on March 30 by Father William Michael of the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur. In attendance were Ambassador Malaya, Deputy Chief of Mission and Consul General, Raly Tejada, Second Secretary and Consul Francis Hererra, Karen Herrera, Third Secretary, and Vice Consul Alvin Malasig, Defense Attaché Col. Ralph Mamauag, Attaché Edna Yasay and other guests.
