PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has demanded that Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua apologise and take down an allegedly defamatory video clip posted on Facebook. In a letter of demand served on Pua Tuesday, Najib's lawyer Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun said the video clip had wrongfully implied that the Prime Minister had committed criminal acts and abused his power.

"Our client is not a tyrannical and oppressive kleptocrat, nor does he shun criticisms, neither he is a leader involved in corrupt practices or a leader who steals the people's monies.

"Accordingly, your entirely baseless and false allegations are intended to disparage our client's high political standing, immense goodwill both local and international and unblemished record of performance.

In doing so, you were acting with malice prepense," said Hafarizam.

Najib is seeking a written apology to be published in two newspapers, that Pua stop making defamatory statements against him and legal costs.

If Pua fails to do so in seven days, Hafarizam said he is under strict instructions to initiate legal proceedings.

The video clip was uploaded on April 6, shortly after PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang's motion to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 was tabled.

This is not the first time that Najib has filed a defamation suit against Pua for making similar allegations.

His suit filed two years ago is currently ongoing.
