Having fake MyKad: Foreigner jailed 15 months

Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old foreigner was sentenced to 15 months' jail by the Magistrate's Court here Wednesday for having a fake MyKad.Norain Hamdan admitted before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to having the dubious document under the name of one Salasum Andunga bearing the serial number 850723-12-5968 at 12.30am on March 22 at Jalan Bukit Nenas, here.

He had committed an offence under Section 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulation, which carries a jail term of up to three years or fine, on conviction.

Norain was ordered referred to the Immigration Department after serving the sentence.

In another case, a local man was jailed a year for stealing a motorcycle.

Nizam Adrizan Borudin pleaded guilty to stealing the machine between 2am and 3am on Dec 28, 2016 in front of a bank in Putatan.

The court ordered Nizam to serve the sentence from Wednesday.

The offence under Section 379A of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between one year and seven years and liability of a fine on conviction.

Meanwhile, a 33-year-old man was freed from a charge of assaulting another man.

Jimson Sulidin was initially accused of causing hurt to one Lo Yong Vui, 32, at 12.01am on April 5, 2016 in a unit at Taman Penampang, Jalan Bundusan in Penampang.

He was discharged and acquitted of the charge after the complainant informed the court that he had withdrawn his police report against Jimson.
