Having fake MyKad: Foreigner jailed 15 months

Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old foreigner was sentenced to 15 months' jail by the Magistrate's Court here Wednesday for having a fake MyKad.Norain Hamdan admitted before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to having the dubious document under the name of one Salasum Andunga bearing the serial number 850723-12-5968 at 12.30am on March 22 at Jalan Bukit Nenas, here.He had committed an offence under Section 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulation, which carries a jail term of up to three years or fine, on conviction.

Norain was ordered referred to the Immigration Department after serving the sentence.In another case, a local man was jailed a year for stealing a motorcycle.Nizam Adrizan Borudin pleaded guilty to stealing the machine between 2am and 3am on Dec 28, 2016 in front of a bank in Putatan.The court ordered Nizam to serve the sentence from Wednesday.

The offence under Section 379A of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between one year and seven years and liability of a fine on conviction.Meanwhile, a 33-year-old man was freed from a charge of assaulting another man.
