No sign of missing navy man

Kota Kinabalu: The search and rescue operation for a navy personnel, believed to have fallen off a naval vessel, entered its second day on Tuesday.The Royal Malaysian Navy, in a statement here, said the operation covered an area of 5,000 square nautical miles, about 60 nautical miles southwest of Bintulu.

However, the personnel remained missing as at press time.

In order to assist in the operation, the navy deployed three other vessels in addition to the KD Selangor on Tuesday; namely the KD Perantau, KD Serang and MV Mega Bakti, whereas the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) deployed KM Tabah from Bintulu to the search area.

The Air Force also sent in air support, deploying its Super Lynx helicopter and Beechcraft B200T aircraft to assist in the operation.

A notification of the missing personnel was also broadcast to vessels plying the route through navigation telex.

The same was also sent to the Petronas East Logistic Command and Bintulu and Miri Fishermen Associations to assist in the search operation.

On Monday, the crew member of KD Perantau was reported missing at 9am, suspected to have fallen overboard the vessel.

He was last seen resting in his cabin at 7.15am. – Tracy Patrick
