Drugs: S'wakian to go on trial April 25-27

Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old stage technician charged with trafficking 664.9gm of syabu will go on trial on April 25 – 27 this year.High Court Judge Datuk Nurchaya Hj Arshad set the date for Andy Lim Shau Seng.

Lim of Sarawak is accused of committing the offence at 4.30pm on Aug 29, 2016 in front of the Kedai Fook Yuen, Gaya Street here.

He had on Jan 23 this year claimed trial to the charge under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act which carries the death sentence on conviction.

The court heard that the prosecution would be calling four witnesses during the trial.

Lim was represented by counsel Cedric Choo.

Meanwhile, in the Magistrate's Court, three men were penalised for taking drugs.

Mohd Jeffrin Abdullah, Mohd Ashmawi Abu Bakar and Abdel Karim Zulkifli pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence at separate locations here between Oct 10, 2016 and Feb 14 this year.

Jeffrin and Abdel were jailed 12 months each while Ashmawi was sentenced to 10 months' jail.

In another case, the court deferred to April 26 pending instructions from the Deputy Public Prosecutor's office the case of two local women charged with two counts of cheating.

The court fixed the date for self-employed Lelly @ Lily Raspin, 44, and housewife Nurisah Asit @ Rasit, 36, after being informed by the prosecution that both the complainants in the case had withdrawn their police reports against the duo.

Lelly and Nurisah, on the first count, allegedly cheated one Mohd Noor Affendi Saidi by convincing him that they could arrange for a loan of RM90,000 from Maybank for him, causing Mohd Noor to bank in RM2,500 as a deposit for their help into Nurisah's bank account. The offence allegedly took place at 5.55pm on Nov 25, 2016 at the Maybank ATM machine in Putatan.

On the second count, the duo were accused of cheating one Nicholas Sylvester Basayu by making him believe that they could arrange for a loan of RM100,000 from Maybank causing him to bank in RM3,000 as a deposit into Nurisah's bank account at 1.56pm on Nov 25, 2016 at the Maybank ATM machine in Lintas.

The duo had claimed trial to both charges on March 30 this year. - Jo Ann Mool
